What is TMS?
Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) is a non-invasive treatment that uses gentle, MRI-strength magnetic pulses to stimulate specific brain networks involved in mood. There’s no anesthesia, no surgery, and no systemic medication - most people return to normal activities immediately after sessions.
- Live with depression that hasn’t fully responded to talk therapy and/or medications.
- Want a non-drug option due to side effects or personal preference.
- Prefer a treatment with minimal side effects and no recovery time needed (you can drive yourself after sessions)
Who can TMS help
You might be a good candidate if you:
Insurance: Most insurers cover TMS for treatment-resistant depression when criteria are met (for example, trying a certain number of medications/therapies without experiencing desired outcomes).
Clients are also able to cover costs via self-pay
What's included:
- Initial treatment session, including motor mapping: $370
- Regular treatment session: $200
- Remapping, if TMS settings require adjustments: $350
Our Team Will:
Check your benefits and prior-authorization requirements for insurance.
Explain likely out-of-pocket costs and timelines.
Offer self-pay routes if you want to begin sooner or don’t meet insurance criteria yet.

Consultation & candidacy
Detailed clinical review with our PMHNP to confirm TMS is appropriate and safe for you.
We’ll also discuss other Redbud options (e.g., Spravato, medication management) and how they may complement TMS.

Mapping & First Session
We identify your motor threshold (the minimal intensity of magnetic pulses that activate a small hand muscle) to individualize dosage.
The treatment coil is positioned precisely over mood-related networks; we fine-tune for comfort where appropriate.

Your treatment course
Sessions are typically on weekdays for several weeks; each block of stimulation lasts about 20 minutes. Each individual responds differently, though many people who respond to TMS start noticing changes in 2-4 weeks, with benefits building over the full course.
You can read, relax, or watch TV during sessions, and drive afterward.

Maintenance & follow-up
Some patients benefit from taper sessions or occasional maintenance based on symptom patterns. We’ll plan this with you after your initial course.
Ask about
Accelerated TMS
(a condensed, same-week protocol). We’ll help you compare standard vs. accelerated based on your schedule and clinical needs.
TMS is well-tolerated for most people. The most common effects are temporary scalp sensitivity or mild headache during the first few sessions; these typically lessen and can be managed with simple adjustments or OTC analgesics. Your PMHNP will review rare risks and safety screening in detail before you start.
Safety & Side Effects
Benefits
Non-drug approach with no systemic side effects like weight gain or sexual dysfunction that can occur with some medications
No downtime – resume work, school, or driving right after each visit
Durable improvement in mood and daily functioning for many patients, especially when paired with supportive care (eg, skills-based therapy, sleep, activity planning)
Will I feel it?
You may feel a gentle tapping on the scalp, which is not harmful. We can adjust position and intensity to improve comfort. Most people acclimate after the first few sessions.
Can I stay on my current meds?
Often, yes. We’ll coordinate with you to decide whether to continue, adjust, or simplify medications during TMS.
Does TMS help anxiety or OCD?
Many people experience relief from anxious depression. Protocols also exist for OCD; if that’s a focus for you, we’ll discuss options and whether a tailored protocol is appropriate. Read more: Conditions We Treat
What if I’m not sure I can commit to the schedule?
